Life is not a game. We are not children. You are dealing with some type of injustice that you can't call by name but that doesn't mean that it isn't there when people smile at you and nicely tell you no. Damn the nicely, it's still a no, or it is still someone preventing you from moving forward in a direction you feel is best. You wonder..."Is it because I am black?" and in some instances, why yes it is. You're a negro and that's a no no. Like with Prof. Gates of Harvard, (whose stance and politics often make me suck my teeth) had the experience of being arrested at his own damn house because they (Po-po) thought someone was breaking in. In the official report, they mention that Gates exclaims, "IS IT BECAUSE I AM BLACK?!?". Now Gates statement does not include this incident but I could believe it, what I can't believe is that after seeing two forms of identification

This is OBVIOUSLY some bullshit and an instance where the "Man" is keeping a black man down but that does not make every situation.

When your forms are late and you miss out on an opportunity to receive aid and you're break. It is not the man's fault, your late ass should have turned stuff in on time.

When you become obese because all you eat is fast food then want to act like the fast food industry is plotting against you... you need to recognize that all the salt and preservatives is messing with your mind.

My point today, is that there will be several situations where life just gives you rocks or people are fucking with you but don't hurt your self further by being your own enemy and not taking care of your damn business. Ain't nobody going to hand you shit in this world SO GET IT TOGETHER....

End Rant... bad day at work smh.

Cuz I can.. I hope they get thrown under the jail. So, with that being said, I hope people do not feel that I am trivilizaging the grief of so many because my blog is not about the fires, but this Koala smh...

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 250px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_X2m4mOrjxbQ/SZPiaUErZcI/AAAAAAAAADo/vV8FidjKCE4/s320/0210_kuala_photo.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5301830128038012354" />

I have a question about this bear...

Was this thing domesticated? because aint nothing wild about their exchange, the bear actually looks like it's holding on to this man's hand...

And it's just cute, I want one, yea I want a bear. It happens to be a herbivore??? I think???

Now, I am serious I want this bear. But I also just think it's interesting that the media chose to highlight this picture and put it at the forefront. It's getting a lot of publicity because it's cute. Well fire aint comfortable and death and destruction ain't cute so in a way, this whole photo shot seems like a service. I bet you a lot more fools are focused on the Koala (cuz she is so freaking cute!) as opposed to the serious, not cute issue of people ruining other people's lives through the sadistic behavior.

I still want the bear though.. like for real, an Australian should send me one... WTF is that! I do not understand these loop holes, unless they are on purpose??? huh? huh? huh? yea... seems likely. If not, how the hell do you write a document (Bailout) that is several hundred pages long and fail to say "OH, yea, by the way, if you mess this up, WE ARE TAKING THE MONEY BACK!"

How hard is that? I mean we can't necessarily repo their business but we definitely need our money back because we have bigger and better things to do. Like uhm how about put the United States at number one when it comes to K-Forever education starting with the worst schools in America. That idea might be too revolutionary as members of the power structure will not benefit. smh.

Also this whole CEO spending thing, they lucky they get 500k, let me make the rules you'd get nada. Your business makes no money, you make no money. I don't understand this mess at all. How do folks get bonuses when they have not done bonus quality work with bonus worthy returns? You don't get a damn bonus for working!!! If that is the case, we all need to walk on Washington (D.C) because there is definitely discrepancy in my bank account since we all get bonuses for doing our damn jobs?!WHAT? And then not do the job well.... man let me be more a slacker (I'm not I work kinda hard) BUT let me be a slacker or someone fails to produce and get a reward?! Please... folks get fired.

What kills me even more is that you know! that people are throwing a fit over the 500k. I wish. Lord I wish I made a tenth right now, I want to make more overtime of course, but just give me a tenth and I would be making some changes. I think since my suggestion that they get nothing would not fly I feel like 200k is far more reasonable. And as I said on Cliff's blog (since that was my inspiration for this bit of randomness) BUDGET BITCH! Do not complain about still making more than like 90 % or so of the rest of the company when you're failure has led to chaos. Maintain valuable workers my foot.

Just in case the CEOs and others do not understand the word "bonus", here is the definition from Webster. We like Webster, "ain't" is in there:)problematic that they said it's used by those who are less educated. HA!

Main Entry:
bo·nus Listen to the pronunciation of bonus
Pronunciation:
\ˈbō-nəs\
Function:
noun
Etymology:
Latin, literally, good — more at bounty
Date:
1773

: something in addition to what is expected or strictly due: as a: money or an equivalent given in addition to an employee's usual compensation b: a premium (as of stock) given by a corporation to a purchaser of its securities, to a promoter, or to an employee c: a government payment to war veterans d: a sum in excess of salary given an athlete for signing with a team

Maybe I'm just going to need to blog about this daily smh... people are pissing me off

Heroes Among Us

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 200px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_X2m4mOrjxbQ/SYi4YFHXPCI/AAAAAAAAABE/fQCrNukKeeU/s320/superhero+kids.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5298687685430819874" />

I was complaining to Cliff about how there needed to be a week time limit on the Pilot from NYC story who landed in the Hudson. Not because I am not appreciative that he saved some people’s lives, but because they played it out the first day and because it’s his job. He did what he was supposed to do. What he was trained to do.

Cliff responded that America hasn’t had too many heroes lately.

However, I have thought a little more about this comment and then my own perception of why there should have been a one week limit on his story, there are heroes all around us. People who are just doing their jobs but making a difference in the process. We often forget about these folks because, like the pilot, they are all just doing their jobs.

The teachers in urban schools, the good ones - not the ones we curse about because they have no business in a class room- the ones who ensure kids from underserved children get a solid education. These people succeed despite the odds that, I’d argue, are sometimes purposely set up against them (socio economic segregation in schools and educational resources is a choice, it can be resolved despite popular belief).

The thousands of mentors, like Cliff, and many others who spend their down time, that they could be sleeping, partying, doing nothing, working with young people and supporting them even when their own parents/relatives won’t. These people often give people the opportunity to consider themselves in a light that they may not have considered before. They are valuable by just simply suggesting that an individual, especially a child CAN do something. They are even more valuable, because little do they know; many of them are the only reliable source that that child might have.

There are countless stories, well there used to be more of people who stuck for others, buying their homes so they wouldn’t lose them. That was a huge thing but that story only came up once in the news then disappeared. People who transport food to the shut in (fatally ill, disabled and elderly) many of these individuals are not only hindered because they can’t go but frankly because they can not afford the food. I mean that’s huge. Yes, all that takes is a car and time but many people won’t and don’t

I do not have a single issue against the man who did his job and landed a plane in the Hudson. For better or worse (because I don’t know the people saved) people’s lives were spared and they are allowed to live another day and hopefully for those who were doing wrong, they have a second chance to do right, but if nothing else, they just get to have another breath of air.

I just get annoyed and funky about the sensationalism that the media puts out. Like for instance, the Obama girls should be GHOST in the media… but nooo and that’s another blog but man. Let’s be thoughtful about the people around us who positively affect the lives of others.

Btw do you know how hard it is to find a black kid dressed up like super man or a black superhero that doesn't look like a villain? Conspiracy? I THINK not.... another blog..

Recession Proof Diet!!! I PROMISE!

Short Version:

Preface: So I have a lot of ideas that I will often share, but it doesn't mean I am going to take my advice. My blackberry package and unlimited text messages ain't YES AIN'T going no where...FROM MY COLD DEAD HANDS!!!!

Foolishness over...

So it's kinda clear that this economy is going through more than a recession based on its definition. In my less eloquent moments, I'd call it a hot mess, as that's exactly what it is! But as I am trying to be more thoughtful so I can set this blog business up... I think that this is a challenge for all of us to really reevaluate the difference between need and want and become real honest about what our dream (as in American Dream) means to each us. It's about ownership and independence but we have become slaves to debt and that's just won't do. So I have a sure fire plan to help some folks out.. It's a crash diet if you will.

Don't buy crap that isn't necessary, consider scaling back on luxuries (cable and smart phones aren't a necessity), eat out less. We all know this stuff but we have a hard time changing because we confuse need and want. A lot of people are getting a rude awakening regarding the definitions of these words. Because they need a job and they need a house and they need food. And they are finding out that they just wanted that expensive car and they just wanted that house that was twice as much as they could afford.

Being smart is the best bet and just thank your lucky stars or praise your God for what you got. Lord knows I need to do better because I am passing out everytime I see the black berry storm. smh

Becomes Long Version
Technology and Entertainment

1. Cable- folks for whatever reason have cable in every room in their houses. Many folks have five or six tvs and every tv has cable. According to comcast they'd save about 30 to 40 dollars a month if they just kept cable on in the master bedroom (cause that's the least that should happen since you pay for the mess) and the living room.

Annual Savings 360 to 480 dollars or just 30/40 x the amount of Tvs you have.

2. Video Games/ DVDs

Take your tail to the library and tell the babies and/or yourself NO. If you must, rent, but why pay 10 to 20 for a dvd (so many people I know have over a hundred
($1000+)

Machines go for 199 to crazy amounts like 500, that's a couple of car notes, a few student loan and or credit card payments. And the crazy thing is many people have multiple units...this could have been your rent...

Save yourself thousands... Read the linked article its crazy how much people throw in to these games. ESPECIALLY FOR KIDS.. either tell them no or make them work for it and buy it their damn selves. I used to hate my mom's position, but I totally agree don't go broke to humor a kid's whim, smh.

3. SMARTPHONES --- I REFUSE DESPITE THE GOOD SENSE GOD HAS GIVEN ME TO LET GO OF MY PHONE!!

So for Tmobile the smart phone package is 19.99 and for AT&T its 30 bucks (240 -360 yr), endless text msgs Tmobile: 14.99 (170) , mobile to mobile 5.99 (72) Plus phone plan like for me it's about 50 a month for 1500 minutes (600)

Annual Cost 1100 - could give up the internet business and save some money. I won't but you could:)

4. Clothes/Shoes/Mess

TJ MAX, ROSS, DSW so much its not even funny

5.Food

Learn to cook, stop being lazy lol
Fast food is expensive. For two Mondo burritos with drinks at Taco Del Mar, You can make a humble but fabulous home made chili.

Homemade can be and usually is cheaper but just time consuming so who knows how that will work. I guess the lesson could be that stuff that isnt hard to prepare - fruits and veggies is what you should be eating anyway... Let's see if that catches on.

Also shopping tip. I'd shop where minority communities shop. I thought it would be ignorant to say shop where many of the Asians and Latinos shop and that might sound ignorant but those are two specific groups who have done a fabulous job of ensuring that they support each other's businesses, provide products that their patrons need while keeping costs down. And shopping in bulk for certain things, not all things is fabulous.

And I guess the serving business that they talk about on tv has something to it, eat less, have more over time.

Okay, I tired... but you all get the picture, be smart, conserve don't use stuff unnecessarily. Bet this could help.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://sheenahouse.blogspot.com/2009/01/recession-proof-diet-i-promise.html' title='Recession Proof Diet!!! For a while its been on minstrel show status so I have declined the joy of seeing every single stereotypical image of black folks throw at me. Yep.. no thank you. Apparently, they are trying to improve BET and make it in to be something of substance that is both entertaining and relevant. Unfortunately, in this efforts to do so, they will have to stop trying to entertain "the others" and get back to basics. Now "the others" is a very gentle euphemism and though I desire to use much coarser language. As for BET, I am not saying that they should only play the Cosby's and other shows where actors only use King English. But English is our friend and the vernacular is beautiful but so lets keep the downhomeisms, the colloquialism and all that other great stuff but can representation just be a little more balanced, because I know asking for accuracy might be pushing it just a little. But as a start, maybe when we talk about Black classics.. ATL won't be on the list.

How about a nice filmography of folks who got an award this year or something. I mean "The Man" starring James Earl Jones, a movie about if there were a Black American President, could be appropriate, some independent films. Meaningful conversation about issues that affect Black America, maybe bring my freaking BET NEWS BACK.

There's a lot they can do really but I want them to do just one thing today. DON'T INDULGE THE STUPIDITY. I love me some Barack but not because I am blind and not because he's black but because I can relate to his political stance. Though I still lean a little more left, and I am a little more nationalistic, I embrace his intentions. But the man hasn't made it yet and I cursed in front of my mama - she let it slide- because BET thought they were doing something by playing this foolishness about BARACK fulfilling the DREAM. On top of that they also engage in the foolishness behind these dumb ass commerative plates, selling crap to folks during a recession. And I'm made on two fronts because the crap exists and because people will buy it smh.

For everyone that didn't get a sound education, slept through class or just forgot, the MLK's Dream was far more comprehensive then folks have been letting on the past few days.

To prove this I made a list of questions that anyone can answer if they so desire...

Can you say that under any circumstances you will have health care and will not have to worry about going without medication, even if you're unemployed?

Can you send your children to ANY school and know that they will have a solid education that will allow them to go on and be academically successful? Can you also say that their education was culturally responsive and will contribute to them to being a competent and informed citizens?

Can you say with certainty, that when you are pulled over in your beautiful BMW, as a black person, that it will not be because of your race?

Can you say that if anyone in your family went to jail, as a person of color, that they will ALWAYS get a fair trial?

Now, you should be answering "No" to all of them. If you failed to do to answer no then you need to go sit in the corner.

My point is just that nothing is as it should be and we are far from achieving Dr. King's dream. I feel like every time we take a step forward for one person, we are taking two steps back for like five more people.

There is a misrepresentation of progress because it is too often being confused with Tokenism.

Hence my wtf moment with BET as it is actually supposed to be targeting a group is farthest from the Dream that MLK speaks of especially when we look at some hard numbers in terms of education, health, unemployment. There are some glaring distortions so I just wanna say BET you wont be seeing me for a while.. "koolaid drinkers" smh.

(For all of those who have gone to Church less than me, "The Rock", is just another way of referencing the Lamb, of God that is). Also the title is from a Steve Harvey rant, that I loved, on Celebrating Gospel on BET, which wasn't the best btw. Tina Marie had no business screaming Jesus music off key smh.

And Scene.
